Captain’s Log; arrived in Barcelona; date-February 19, 2023.

We have heard so much about Barcelona and knew it would be a great place to beam ourselves up to for a few days. I think we got a little spoiled in Valencia because when we walked out of the metro station into a sea of people, we both thought “oh dear, what have we done.” We got over the congestion and made the decision to take it all in and appreciate the moment.

Our first day was not too eventful until the evening when we went to the flamenco show and had dinner at the Tablao Flamenco Cordobes. The video we shared was a good example of the show we saw. We were not allowed to take any videos or photos except the last couple of minutes.

The flamenco show was amazing and another pinch me moment. Flamenco is such an intimate and emotionally stimulating form of music and dance. I was captivated from the moment it started. The flamenco type of singing is called “jondo” and it sounds like an outcry or at times laughter. The Spanish guitar music loving supports the singers and dancers. I really thought the guitarists solo was delightful.

We did find one museum open on a Monday, but this is a PG post so I won’t go into our time there. The Gothic Quarter was pleasant to walk through. Every square had its own unique style and we never got bored just sitting and watching all the families and dogs running around.
More to come as we recover from walking over 37,000 steps in three days and a long drive home. Beam me up Brad. This girl is ready for some wine on the balcony.
